Wilmorton - Deadman's Lane

(Written By Milly Wong)

So many people died of the Black Death in Derby that the town had to bury many of the unfortunate victims at the boundaries of the town, one of these places still being called Deadman's Lane, off London Road.

The Portland Hotel pub on London Road, pictured to the left is situated on the corner of Deadman's Lane.

Over the years there have been some unusual sightings reported in the area, including details of a vampire, always accompanied by the smell of rotting fruit at the bottom of Ascot Drive.

Another sighting by a young couple courting in the late 1950s tells of a man dressed in a long black cloak walking past them on Long Bridge Lane, off Ascot Drive and disappearing into thin air.
